Audrey collaborates with visionaries, entrepreneurs, start-ups and small teams with big ideas.

There’s nothing like starting something from the ground up. New opportunities and business ventures can be exciting, overwhelming, inspiring and daunting all at the same time. After working with business professionals, specialists, organization leaders and career re-inventors for the past several years, I know how challenging it can be to entrust your project to someone else. My job is to jump-start your idea in order to take your work to that next level.

I aim to hit the sweet spot in the project management triangle by providing clients with a perfect blend of turnaround time, quality and cost.

When we decided to re-launch our organization, Audrey helped in creating our brand identity, promotional materials and online presence. She sought to understand our vision and how we operate. Being a small non-profit, she offered a very reasonable rate which has paid off tenfold through the amount of traffic we receive through our site.

Why studiowala?

Growing up, I had a penchant for shapes, colours and words. I received my Bachelor of Design, Specialized Honours degree (graduating summa cum laude) from the York/Sheridan Design Program. ‘Wala’, the second half of my last name, is a suffix that usually implies a type of seller or trader in Hindi. I love what I do because it allows me to use my creative skills while interacting with different people and learning about a wide range of industries.

My Core Principles

STYLE AGNOSTIC
I don’t adhere to a particular set style. I believe the strength of a great designer is their versatility to explore a wide range of ideas.

MEDIA SAAVY & MEDIA CRITIC
Technology should work for you, not the other way around. My modus operandi is the ‘less is more’ principle: Focus on a few channels and do it really well.

NON-INTIMIDATING
No design snobbery here. My role is to meet people where they’re at and guide them to where they want to be.

CRAFT
Craft is about pursuing excellence. For my practice, this entails a combination of 50% skill and expertise, 25% knowledge-sharing, 20% efficiency and 5% magic (aka mind-reading/intuition).

ENJOYMENT
Work can be fun. Part of my job is to re-ignite the spark (or fan the flame) that makes you excited about your project. This means embarking on a journey that appreciates the process just as much as the final result.

SUSTAINABILITY & EQUALITY
I’m a champion of eco-friendly alternatives and consider user accessibility, usability and inclusivity principles when designing.

A little about myself

I’m a proud Singaporean-Canadian, raised in Vancouver and settled in Toronto with my husband Danesh, our children Erin and Jamie, and cat Micah. When I’m not designing, you’ll probably find me at home cooking, cleaning or trying to nap. My fave fiction book might be Flowers for Algernon. If I could have any superpower, it would be the ability to make anyone laugh. I adore any kind of chips and chocolate.

Working with Audrey was a pleasure! I found her to be thoughtful and genuinely interested in the success of my practice, finding unique ways to integrate my values and personality into the design elements. She set reasonable timelines for my project and exceeded expectations. Communication was clear and she was always happy to answer questions, big or small. Audrey was thorough about project details, understanding my industry and making meaningful recommendations that added depth to my site. I loved the design elements and functionality of the website and logo – the feedback from my clients has been fantastic!
